The Nose Knows: Dogs Love to Sniff

We all know dogs are good at sniffing things out, and some are definitely better than others.
Although my girl is technically a sighthound, sometimes when I’m out walking her I feel like I’m with a bloodhound, because she spends the majority of her time with her nose to the ground.
While experts say that most people can detect more than 10,000 distinct odors, professional smellers (also called “noses”) are able to detect 10 times that amount.
Then there are dogs like bloodhounds, which can detect odors at concentrations nearly 100 million times lower than humans.
To put it in perspective, according to Spirit magazine, if humans had the same olfactory capabilities, we could sniff out a drop of chocolate in a city the size of Philadelphia.
