Treats for Fido (& You)
Dog treats are available in all shapes and sizes, but I’ve found that for my picky Greyhound, the produce aisle at my local Co-Op does the trick just fine.
I choose organic produce for a variety of health reasons, and I do the same for my dog, because if it’s good enough for me, it’s good enough for her!
Among the treats we’ve discovered that Greta enjoys:
Baby carrots
Watermelon
Cantaloupe
Strawberries
Bananas
Apples
Pumpkin (organic, canned–one aisle over)
Plain fat-free yogurt (organic–dairy case)
(In fact, we can’t even cut into a melon anymore without Greta peeking into the kichen and waiting for her share.)
Carrots seem to be in the air right now, so here’s a great recipe I plan to try this Spring, send to me by Sheri @ Edible Sacramento.
Happy eating!
***After doing a lot of research, I also know there are many foods that are harmful, and since not everyone might know about all of them, here’s a comprehensive list courtesy of Drs. Foster & Smith.

Here’s what to watch out for:

My distaste for puppy mills notwithstanding, I’m pleased to report that, stepping away from its reputation as “The Puppy Mill Capital of the East,” the Pennsylvania Legislature passed HB 2525 on October 8, a bill that will improve the lives of tens of thousands of dogs living in Pennsylvania’s puppy mills.
HB 2525 doubles the cage [...]
Two years ago today, my husband and I rescued Greta, and our lives have never been the same since. Sure, it was hard in the beginning–after all, she was a puppy with no experiences outside of living in a wire crate 23 hours a day.
Slowly, she learned how to relax and live in a home. [...]
